Addons and how to configure them

In this article, we will be showing you how to create or edit addons, assign them to your products, and what types are available for your specific needs.

Adding/editing addons

In order to create or edit existing addons, you must first be logged in as an administrator and select Settings > Products > Addons

Once there, click on the Add Product Addon button to create a new addon, or in an existing addon name to edit it.

At the top, you will be able to see your current enabled languages (if you have enabled more than one).

Clicking on each language tab will allow you to fill a different Name of Addon , Addon description , and Option Label so that your clients can see those names in their selected language if it is provided.

Depending on which type of product groups you will be applying the addon to (meaning the ones selected in Available To Product Groups ) you will be able to difirentiate billing cycle options for the addon.

To configure the available prices for the Addon Options please take a look at the following Knowledge Base Article titled How to configure addon prices to learn how to properly set the prices of your addon and prevent unexpected troubleshooting issues in the future.

Configuring addons in a product and selecting or updating their type

Now that you have configured your available addons, it is time to assign them to products that will offer them.

In order to edit your existing products, you will need to be logged in as an administrator and then go to Settings > Products > Products

Once there, click on an existing product name to edit it, then go to its Addons tab to assign/edit them.

In Select addon to add to this product you will be able to select one of the addons you want to be offered when ordering the product.

In Select a type for the selected addon you will be able to select one of three different types about how your addon will be displayed to your client when placing a new order for the product. These three types work as follow:

- Drop-down menus will display all the available addon options in a dropdown, for your client to select one of them.
- Radio buttons will display all the available addon options in individual radio buttons, for your client to select one of them.
- Quantity is our latest addition to the addon types and will have some special features. This addon will allow your client to enter the quantity he wants to order the selected addon option. If the addon only has one option available, it will be displayed as text, while if there are more options to select, it will be displayed as a dropdown, for your client to select one of them.

Some notes to take into account before deciding to set an addon to use a given type, especially quantity :

- If you want to update the type of an addon that has been already assigned to the product, you can select it once again in Select addon to add to this product , and then type in Select a type for the selected addon.
- If the addon is been assigned to the product, existing clients already using the product will be applied the default addon value: None option if available, or the first option if not.
- If the addon is been updated to quantity type, existing clients will use a quantity of 1 by default, as any other addon type actually uses a quantity of 1.
- If the addon is been updated from quantity type to a different type, existing clients will change their quantity to 1 even if it was 0 or greater than 1 , as any other addon type actually uses a quantity of 1.
- The default quantity allowed to be selected by your clients for addons of type quantity when placing a new order is 0.
